This book taught me a lot about Afghanistan history and culture, particularly the tensions across people of different ethnic groups and different religions. When reading this, I'm not thinking about the wars simply through a factual, political/historical lens, but through the lens of people affected by such wars. Particularly women.
This book was pretty short, but I got so attached to both Mariam and Laila. Both are such beautifully written and developed characters. It was heart wrenching to read really grim, violent parts of the book, but it also forced me to think about how it is/was a reality for many war-impacted civilians.

This book really made me feel, think, reflect.

Another fantastic book from Khaled Hosseini. If you’ve read The Kite Runner and loved it (like me), A Thousand Splendid Suns is a honestly a must read.

I just finished this a few minutes ago and I am struggling to find the words to describe this masterpiece. Such a beautiful but absolutely heart-wrenching story. There were many hard-to-swallow moments in this book, so many times I couldn't believe what I was reading. This is one of those books that will stick with me for a long time and is one that I'll think of often. I am looking forward to reading more from Khaled Hosseini, as he has an immense talent and skill of writing and conveying such a beautiful story!
