DJ Suzuki was a knight in the court of Queen Mab, but after the fall of the Faerie Queen she is happy to leave court politics behind and live her life in peace. she has spent twenty years in the Faerie realm, and going back to her family is not an option.

Her life of drinking, entertaining and hooking up is interrupted when a young woman called Talia stumbles into the night club she works at and asks for help. DJ agrees to escort her to a place where she is safe from the people who are hunting her. But the journey to Colorado is full of surprises and not all of them are nice.

Thanks a lot to Tay LaRoi for sending me a free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review

This was such an enjoyable read! I love a good queer fantasy story, and The Tale of a Faerie Knight builds such a compelling world, I loved it. It’s an urban fantasy book, and it was really interesting to see how LaRoi ties that together.

DJ is a great main character, and I really enjoyed watching her develop over the course of the story. It’s great to see her confronting her past, painful and hard to explain as it might be. Her relationship with Talia and how it develops is great to watch, too.

Talia herself is a great character as well. I enjoyed how absolutely sweet she is, and how much fun she has with exploring the human realm. She was so adorable and I just loved reading about her.

Since The Tale of a Faerie Knight is actually the second book in The Faerie Court Chronicles I was a little concerned about whether I would get the whole story, since I haven’t read the first book yet. But LaRoi explains enough of the back story that you can understand it without problem. At the same time she doesn’t spoil any details for the first book, and I’m really looking forward to reading Portraits of a Faerie Queen as soon as I can!

If you’re looking for a queer fantasy then I really recommend you read The Tale of a Faerie Knight, because it is a great and fun read with a beautiful love story that will definitely make you smile.
