This book was so good! I really had a hard time putting it down. I've been following Blair Braverman on Twitter for a few months now, and after reading her account of finishing the Iditarod this spring I had to pick up her book. So glad the library had it.

Loved this book. Anyone who has spent time in the outdoor industry and/or experienced sexual violence will relate to this story.

A small window in a world I’d otherwise have no access to.

This wasn't what I expected, though to be fair, I didn't actually know much about what this book was really about. I started following Blair on twitter about a year ago, around the time that she ran the Iditarod, but I didn't know too much about her life other than that. This turned out to be a book largely about being a woman, in both extreme environments and non. It's well-written and captures a lot of the emotional experience that I think, unfortunately, most women have lived, but that doesn't always make it a pleasant read (or listen, especially as it's read by the author). It's still a worthy read, but probably one that you should go into eyes open. Braverman is an excellent story teller (and a great twitter follow, especially if you like dogs) and I'll definitely keep an eye out for her writing in the future.

(This took me a long time to listen to because I had it as an audiobook and my audiobook time is down significantly since my commute is, for the time being, about twenty steps instead of 35 minutes in the car.)

It’s less a memoir of the arctic and dogsledding than a chronicle of trauma and the compulsion to revisit it. I hope the writer’s okay now?
