Depressing to know that this really happens around us without anybody knowing. Happy ending which makes it all worthwhile though. Nice easy read, good beach/summertime book.
This is a sweet little romance that was really not about romance at all. It is about making the best of what you have and finding happiness. It is not what I was expecting. And there was not really any complication other than the lives that the main characters had been living up until then. This is not a story of how they fell in love; they had been in love forever. This is not a story about survival; they have already been through the worst. This is a snapshot of two people’s lives at that pivotal point of change. And it is beautiful.
A very light read and an easy one. so sweet and lovely. The kind you can finish in one hour and feel good afterwards in a very cheesy, yet satisfying, way
Es un libro corto... muy corto pero en realidad muy lindo me gustaron mucho los personajes y la historia.
Creo que aunque el libro es corto se puede disfrutar un montón de los personajes y conocerlos bien e incluso encariñarte con ellos.

Absolutely loved & adored this story, my only complaint was that it was too short :)
This book wasn't like most love stories. Mostly because of Carter and Sophie's messed up lives, and what they mean to each other years before they fall in love.
The story and writing felt a bit flat at times. However, that only served to strengthen the raw feeling of this book. We're given a look into the far from perfect lives of two teens, and the support and love they offer each other. And, it mainly felt real, unpolished, and painful.
And, Sophie and Carter's relationship was sweet and loving and real.
Carter had many witty lines.
I'm late.
I'm running through the halls (well, let's be honest here, I'm not running. I'm walking. Casually. English doesn't excite me, so I refuse to break a sweat to get there) thinking about what my excuse for being tardy will be.
Insightful thoughts.
He thinks he's the man of the house. And, really he is. But he's also fourteen.
Descriptive phrasings.
She's a ticking time bomb of crazy.
And lots of empathy.
"Hey, Mrs. Jax. Carter said you're having a problem with aliens?" I say this sincerely. Mocking her does no good.
"Yes, yes. They're everywhere and they want me!"
It was both a sweet story of hope and a heartbreaking view of what some teens live through.
I wish the title went a bit deeper than just their names. And, that the cover was a bit more meaningful.
For what it was, though, it was great.
Content warnings:
This book deals with many mature topics.
Language. Tattoos are mentioned.
Carter's mom is on pills, and hallucinates, both him and his mom were beaten by his father. He has a scar from the time his father cut him with a butcher's knife. We see some of this abuse in Sophie's POV.
Sophie's mom is a drug addict and prostitute. Which is how Sophie and her three siblings are born. Sophie raises her siblings alone.
In once scene Carter goes with Sophie to get money from her mom and they get to see her and a bunch of other women in various stages of undress getting ready for that evening. Sophie's mom offers her to join the women, after which Sophie cuts off every connection to her.
There's flirting and teasing. Sophie and Carter kiss.
Their romance is more sweet, loving and supportive than physical. However, there are many non-descriptive, passing mentions of mature topics. Carter's friend asks him if he's ever seen her undressed from the window.
