I LOVE these books. I highly recommend listening to them because Mummy-Gee is so much funnier that way. I could just follow her around and have a great time. Puri truly is the most amazing detective, but he got those skills from somewhere. I really hope there is another book in this series. I am not tired of these characters at all. I recently visited I dos and the descriptions come so much more alive for me this reading.

An entertaining writer. This one is not his best but I loved the complex plot.

Bleeding-edge DNA technology meets the ages-old caste system. I like the Inspector Puri series for its broad reach across Indian society from rural villages to shrine pilgrimage sites to 21st century urban social etiquette conundrums. Middle-aged Puri represents the traditional cultural viewpoint, but he always comes around to more modern ways of thinking. His elderly mother Mummy-ji is a bonus second detective who deserves her own spinoff.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Tarquin Hall's entire Vish Puri mystery series. The character of Vish Puri is endearing and well-developed, with hints of another certain portly gentleman PI shared by Agatha Christie. Before reading these books, my insider knowledge of Indian culture was embarrassingly limited to one mom-and-pop type authentic Indian restaurant I used to frequent while living in England. But after the first chapter of "Missing Servant," I was hooked and the Vish Puri series became my guilty pleasure reads. The characters are lovable and believable, the culture is beautifully depicted, and the food...Lordy, the food! I love that Mr. Hall has started incorporating "family recipes" in the back. I can finally taste some of the delicious foods Puri is always devouring!

I highly recommend these books. They're easy to read and I love using them to clear my mind between some of the heavier books I have on my reading list (I just finished Helter Skelter...I needed some Vish Puri after that! Yikes!).

I may update this review after I try some of the mouthwatering recipes, so stay tuned!

Vish Puri is my favorite detective since Hercule Poirot. This series is so fun! Also, Vish Puri and I like to eat the same amount (a lot), and the book is full of scrumptious-sounding Indian dishes. So I'm hungry now.
