After a brief break between books, I came back to Holmes and Watson with a renewed interest in the novels. I liked the fresh take on some of these adventures, and the type of cases.
Out of all the collections of short stories, this is the one where Watson gets the most personality, which I think is quite fun. He doesn't let Holmes walk all over him. As for the individual stories, they're just as good as always. I love the eloquence of the writing. It might be just my imagination, but I think this collection also features more stories with strong female leads. Often times the women in the stories are not victims, but either culpable in the crime, or a part of finding the solution. I really enjoy that!
One of my favorite types of mysteries that Sherlock Holmes undertakes are those in which he must break the law in order to set things right. It's very amusing how he deceives the police. Regardless, this book was very fun, as all others have been. Thank God he's not dead.
