The Return of Sherlock Holmes is my favorite short story collection in the Sherlockian canon so far. I enjoyed it so much that I have 5 favorite adventures instead of my usual 3: Empty House, Norwood Builder, Dancing Men, Six Napoleons, and Charles Augustus Milverton, the latter being chief among them.
I really enjoyed it. The stories of Sherlock Holmes are so easy to read even though they are classics and old hahah! I forgot to read : The memoirs of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of Baskervilles before reading that one so oh well I guess I'm going to read them out of order.
The Return of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of 13 short stories. It is my fifth Sherlock Holmes book and my third of the short story collection. This one was the longest with one more story than the previous 2 collections. It didn't grab me quite as much as the other 2 collections and I can't say I absolutely loved it, but I did thoroughly enjoy the majority of it. The 13 stories are:
- The Adventure of the Empty House
- The Adventure of the Norwood Builder
- The Adventure of the Dancing Men
- The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist
- The Adventure of the Priory School
- The Adventure of Black Peter
- The Adventure of the Charles Augustus Milverton
- The Adventure of the Six Napoleons
- The Adventure of the Three Students
- The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez
- The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter
- The Adventure of the Abbey Grange
- The Adventure of the Second Stain
- The Adventure of the Empty House
- The Adventure of the Norwood Builder
- The Adventure of the Dancing Men
- The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist
- The Adventure of the Priory School
- The Adventure of Black Peter
- The Adventure of the Charles Augustus Milverton
- The Adventure of the Six Napoleons
- The Adventure of the Three Students
- The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez
- The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter
- The Adventure of the Abbey Grange
- The Adventure of the Second Stain

Back by popular demand—for better or for worse (it's for worse). I can't help but feel a bit of sympathy for ACD, who really did want to be known for things beyond his one most popular character, to the point of killing him off with the hopes that this would end things, but alas: the fans were too fervent, demanding that Holmes be brought back. And so this volume of stories is more or less fanservice, and the quality suffers as a result. The overall experience is great—there's few objectively bad Holmes stories—but nothing really stands out. It's a steep decline when compared against the earlier stories.
