DNF at ‘Part 3 : Birth of a Freedom Fighter’
this is the first one from my list of 100 that i haven’t been able to finish and that’s not because it was badly written or due to the content but mostly because i don’t much like non fiction, hence why i shall not be rating it.
I think this book was beautifully written and the parts i read i did find interesting and one day i will absolutely come back and read some more, but maybe when i’m older than 19

I absolutely loved this book. The story of Nelson Mandela and the struggle of the ANC is very moving and inspiring. Plus, Nelson's character and voice is very engaging. One of the strongest parts of the book is the portrayal of secondary characters; I felt, sometimes during the book, more concerned about Mandela's friends and struggle companions than I was about him.
Overall, this is one of my favorite books.

The reason I decided to read this book is because of Ron Clarke. He came and spoke to my school, and one of the things he said was that a Long Walk to Freedom should be read by every human being. Mr. Clarke was very inspirational and so I decided to take his advice and read this book.
Boy, was he right.
Nelson Mandela's whole life was given to the fight for freedom in his country. He worked tremendously hard to get to where the country is today, him and a whole bunch of others. The fact that he was in prison for 27 years and came out as strong as every just tells me what an incredible person he is. He never once only thought about himself. It was all for the people of his country that he fought for. What an inspirational man.
He also never took things for granted. In the beginning of the autobiography, Mandela lives in a hut with his mother and siblings/cousins, with no electricity or running water. They didn't express the need to want more than they have, like society is today. The fact that his family was happy the way their life was without wanting anything more was very important. Nowadays all we do is want what we don't have and always feel the need that we don't have enough.
This book is filled with all different kinds of emotions. Mandela did an excellent job writing about his life, because I could picture in my mind all the different things he went through.
Everyone should pick up this book someday and read it. It is inspiring, hopeful, and gives you chills.
I chose not to rate this book because I don't really feel the need to rate one's life. An autobiography is someone who is taking the time to share their journey of life with an audience, and I don't really feel right about rating a book that is based on someone's life from when they are born to the present. I don't feel it morally right, however that is just my opinion which is why I will not be giving this book a rating.

FIRST LINE REVIEW: "Apart from life,a strong constitution, and an abiding connection to the Thembu royal house, the only thing my father bestowed upon me at birth was a name, Rolihlahla." And what he went on to bestow on the rest of us is a testament to the amazing power that can be found in every human if he puts others first. That is what Nelson Mandela did, time and time again. Inspiring and heart-breaking. On so many levels.
