I read LONG WALK TO FREEDOM over the course of about a month and loved it. This book is 700 pages in total— on audio, it was 27 hours.

Really interesting story of Mandela’s life as well as the history’s of South Africa’s journey to a better democracy for blacks.  It is staggering to think he chose 27 years of prison to fit for his country’s rights!

I went on many long walks while listening to this story, and there was always a lot to mull over in my mind. This isn't just an autobiography of Mandela, but a history of the fight for freedom in South Africa and a story of the depths of human resilience, compassion, and courage. One thing that really struck me was Mandela's acknowledgement and deep conviction that his commitment to "the struggle" as he called it cost him his family and personal life and that he didn't really see how a person could truly be committed to both.

So sad to see the events of history repeating themselves. Insight into how to interpret the current affairs of the world provided by the past events. Personalities like Nelson Mandela strive and persevere and lead.
