Not my thing, for a reason I wasn't expecting. I enjoyed the poetry. It was beautifully written and ranged from fun to heartbreaking to romantic. I had a hard time pinning down an intended age group, but my primary issue was that I just couldn't get past her use of sacred language. It probably wouldn't have bothered me as much if I were in the spiritual-but-not-religious camp. She took the titles of various kinds of religious poetry, but used words from a mixture of religions. Along with her introduction, this made it seem to turn liturgy into a worship of words instead of acknowledging the God (or gods) being worshipped in the traditional forms of the types of poetry.

One perk of being a librarian is serendipitously finding books with which I am unfamiliar at the exact right time. This collection of poetry for young adults is simple but lovely and I found myself thinking about the sentiments behind the chants, charms, and blessings well after reading them. Just what I needed.

A beautiful collection of poems that would be perfect in any classroom no matter what the age. Joyce Sidman writes thoughtful, heartfelt poems -- proof that all poets that write for kids aren't just pandering to their silly, nonsensical side.

My favorite poem in this collection is "Blessing on the Smell of Dog" because as much as I love to complain about how my house smells like dog, deep down I know what a comfort that smell is and how no home in my mind is complete without the thing that smell is attached to.

Gorgeous! Some poems could work for kids as young as 8 or 9; the collection as a whole is mature and sophisticated enough for middle or high school. Sidman really seals her stellar reputation with this book (as if it hadn't already been sealed).

The art's gorgeous. I don't know about the poetry. It was nice enough, but I don't know if it was "good".

I never read poetry. My brain never quite grasps the beauty of it?

I enjoyed these so much, I'm thinking I may need to read a small book of poetry each year.

Not as vigorous as her other poetry, and the illustrations seem pretty hackneyed at this point in time.
