Really enjoyed this but didn't love when Jae told him to go and he just listened. Seemed contrived to add some drama at the end of the book

This is one of those books I'll never forget. Raphael and Jae ❤️.
I'm a big fan of the celebrity rock star or pop star trope, especially when it's a forbidden romance like this one. The synopsis had everything to please me... And it delivered.
I know little or nothing about Kpop or Korean culture, and I enjoyed discovering this universe, even though I would have liked to learn more. I regret that we didn't get Jae's point of view more often, especially in the beginning. 3 or 4 chapters were way too few, and I feel like I don't know much about him compared to Raphael.
The physical descriptions of Jae are not at all those of characters usually found in MM romances, often written for women, where the two men are mostly heterosexual-like. The earrings, the silver or pink hair, the tight clothes, we're definitely not on my male ideal! I even wonder how a straight guy like Raphael could be so attracted to Jae at first sight. But that's what I loved! That instant attraction. The dreams, the thoughts, the obsession with him. The willingness to try anything to have an experience with someone you barely know. I like people who act and take responsibility, so I liked Raphael.
It was harder to get attached to Jae without really having his point of view, but I found him very touching. I loved that he was open with Raphael and his intentions at the beginning.
I wanted to hug him to comfort him when he was scared.
I was a little concerned about the cheating part with Raphael's girlfriend Camille, but obviously the author wanted everything to work out for everyone, and even though the credibility of the situation is questionable, I tolerated it.
There was a lot of alcohol and drugs (cocaine), which I don't like at all, although fortunately the characters here don't seem to be really addicted to them. But it still makes me uncomfortable.
The pot twist at the end came out of nowhere and disappointed me a bit, but the epilogue was really cute and all's well in the best of all possible worlds, so in the end I'm not sorry it happened. I finished the book with a smile on my face.
I also would have liked to have seen the discussion between Mason and Raphael after the revelation. I thought it was a shame that it was never mentioned, even though the subject of homophobia between them comes up several times in the book.
This was a very good discovery of this author, with a book that will stay with me for a long time, and with characters that I'll always think of when I see Kpop stars in the future.

i enjoyed this book a smidge more than i thought i would considering it has tropes i don't like.
i enjoy both characters, raphael and jae, separately, but there's something lacking for me when it comes to their relationship. i'm not sure if i wasn't really feeling the non sexual chemistry and i sort of wish there would have been a longer pursuit on raphael's part rather than just the pining and then immediately sleeping together once they had the chance. i feel like we're sort of told they have a connection rather than showing us that they do. the smut was nice and i wish we would have gotten to experience some role reversal.
i don't like the ending. it's over done in mlm romance especially when it comes to these sort of stories. the only reason i even rated this book this high is because i enjoyed the angst. i'm a sucker for angst.

I really enjoyed reading through this. I am actually a huge fan of K-Pop, so I was excited to a see a K-Pop Idol romance novel.
There are definitely some extremely recognizable similarities between Jaehyun and a real K-Pop idol I adore, but, as the author mentioned in her acknowledgements, she was inspired by many idols and I could definitely see what she meant.
Raphael and Jaehyun's relationship was very sweet and beautiful. Honestly, I loved Rapha waxing poetic about Jae because I would've done the same and him slowly figuring himself out throughout the course of the book was definitely realistic, in my personal opinion. Though, I obviously don't agree with how he went about it (i.e. the cheating trope).
How Scarlett Drake described the idol industry through Jae's reluctance to openly be with Raphael only scratches the surface, but at least it's accurate, which I applaud. And he says in the epilogueabout how he won't marry Raphael while others in his country cannot really makes me appreciate him.
Overall, this was a wonderful story and I would gladly reread it.
