An enjoyable spicy dark game-centered fantasy with Bridgerton vibes to start. I thought this book was better than the Kingdom of the Wicked series because of the more precise plot, banter between the mains, and the twists kept me saying “ok just one more chapter.” Nonetheless I’m glad I had the KOTW backstory - not completely necessary to read this one but provides further depth to the world that would’ve kept me guessing otherwise. I loved the cat-and-mouse “who’s besting who?” feeling throughout. My main critique is the magic system again that feels loose at times but I think that’s par for the course with this universe. Hot take: Envy over Wrath!

This book was really good. The tension between the main characters, fantastic. And Envy is really hot. I took a star off because the side characters are a bit one-note and sometimes the writing itself could get a bit cheesy. But this was still a really enjoyable read

At first I had a bit of a hard time getting into this book and felt like being thrown right into the middle of story, not knowing what was going on, though soon enough I was slowly drawn into this world again and started to really like following the main characters and their story, the rather unpredictable mysteries and turn of events... and after reading this book, I now understand a few things better and can look at them from a different perspective, that happened in the original trilogy "Kingdom of the Wicked". So, while I think this book could be read as a standalone, I strongly recommend reading the trilogy first!

It was a fun read for the vibes and while I did read it quickly, it didn't need all the spicy scenes because I felt that it took away from the plot. I am glad it was a standalone because if this is the kind of setup of the rest of her books then I will end up trying something else.
