Aristocrats, Grave Diggers, pushing back on gender roles, questionable medical practices, and immorality. This book has a lot going on. Ending felt a little chaotic but overall it was an easy and entertaining read.

I usually don’t love YA but this was super unique with twists I didn’t expect! I love the blend of crime, mystery, thrill, love, and ambition. The first half set the tone and atmosphere of all things surgery in the 1800s, the plague, and grave robbing. The second half was a lot more fast paced. This definitely did not read like a romance book at all, just had a few cute scenes of love.

I didn’t feel like I got closure with the ending but I was still content with the end. Knowing that there is a sequel I feel a lot better about that ending. I would’ve liked to have a bit more detail on the outcome of the characters but I’m assuming that’s what the next book is for. I definitely did not expect this to dabble in fantasy/sci-fi but I’m all for it.
