I found myself looking up other people’s opinions before I was even a third of the way through, which is never a good sign. I also found myself frequently checking to see how much was left. Not a favorite.

maybe i’m not religiously intelligent for this book? idk it was fun and spooky but i had a hard time with the narrator, David. despite being the narrator, i often felt like we weren’t getting a full view of what was going on in his mind. he would have trains of thought, ideas, or come to conclusions without ever letting the reader in on it, which made me feel disconnected from him. he would tell us that something was a certain way and then seemingly change his mind without giving us a clear view of why. maybe those who are more into christian imagery or have read Milton would follow better though? idk

spoiler: i also don’t get the ending like at all… literally how did he get her back. he didn’t follow through with what he was told. did o’brien make it happen or something? that doesn’t make any sense. is this like a “love conquers all thing”? truly made me say “wait that’s the end?”
