Really enjoyed this first Ruth Galloway novel.
I found the archeological information interesting and not overdone.
The description of the saltmarsh was very powerful.

Looking forward to reading book 2 in the series.

I found the first in the series entertaining. I read the second one first. It was interesting as well. There were some similarities in the arc of the two stories. Enough where I won’t read on to the third. Having Ruth in danger towards the end twice is enough for me.

And, as I look ahead, there appears to be a fair amount of melodrama and perhaps less archeology. Although I do like DCI Nelson, I’m not so interested in a romance-lit storyline. I’m also not interested in Ruth’s adjustments to motherhood. And it also means Ruth AND her daughter will be put in danger at some point.

So, I may pick up at the last one in the series—or at least the one after the COVID one.

I read the second one first. Then I decided to read the first story in the series. I might read the most recent one--I believe that is a story after the one where covid was featured. The ones in between sound like so much romance and melodrama with some police procedures, with some forensic anthropology. I'm not interested in melodrama or romance.

Also, after I found out that the third in the series also has a climax with Ruth in danger, I decided I'd pass. Twice is enough. Can anyone write a mystery without the protagonist being in danger? Also, I'm not so interested in how Ruth deals with single motherhood. I'm interested in the mystery and the work to solve it. While I appreciate the depth of the characters, there needs to be a balance between soap opera and crime-solving.

On its own, I enjoyed this one enough. If I hadn't already, I would have continued on to the second.

Great little mystery that was a quick read. I can’t wait to read more in this series!

I’ve had this book for ages, I’m not sure why I chose this week to read it. Ruth Galloway, an archeologist who teaches at a university in Norfolk, is called in to consult when someone finds human remains. Absorbing and takes some unexpected turns.
