Her stories are inventive, dark and delightful! I can't wait to read her other books!
Definitely recommend it. Good stories. Interesting connections.
Stories are told almost incoherently. Not really narratives, more of just paragraph after paragraph stating or describing a random fact about something or someone that has nothing to do with anything that's supposed to be the focus of the story. Confusing.
I don't think there's anyone out there who writes quite like Helen Oyeyemi. Her writing is so creative and rich.
Glorious. This is beautifully written and very engaging, with prose that is rich and a joy to read. It's cleverly done, showing that sex, sexuality, gender and race are not fixed points, nor are they binary positions. Characters are developed well and not necessarily in line with your (my) first impressions.
It's magical realism, done as black whimsy. Both beautiful & dark... OK, sometimes the 'weird scale' went a little high for me, but that's a minor quibble.
An excellent book.

Consisting of mini stories with unrelated characters, this book starts off strong with an intriguing story line. I didn't enjoy, the second or third story lines as well. So it was a miss for me.
First few stories are incredible bc theyre so focused then the last few kind of go off the rails and lose that sense of intimacy that made the beginning great. Still written really well all the way thru tho
This is definitely a book I will have to reread - mesmerizing, confusing, and well-written. The stories within the stories structure worked well, as did the subtle and mocking references to fairy tales.
There were only two stories I actually enjoyed. Unfortunately found myself skim reading in places.
