In this world there are voices without form; they sing and sing, as they have from the beginning and will continue until the end.
In general, I am not a fan of magical realism. In fact, I loathe it, except, apparently for Helen Oyeyemi's stories, perhaps because they're like the fantastical descriptions of fairy tales, which Oyeyemi riffs on constantly. The (mostly) Interlinked stories here share both characters and concepts - keys and puppetry in particular. Lovely, scary stuff.
Would finish—had to return to library about halfway through.

This was my first Oyeyemi book and unfortunately it was a dnf at page 50.
The first story didn't engage me much at all and the second story was looking much the same with regards of connection and interest.
It's a disheartening shock as I thought I'd really enjoy this collection of short stories and that it could set me up nicely for some of her full length novels.

3.5-4ish, I loved some of the stories and others were a little forgettable, but I love Helen's writing style.
