The story about a roman soldier who killed Jesus on the cross and became immortal, a very interesting book. Science, fantasy, action, adventure with some historical facts, this reminded me of Duncan Mcleod from the Highlander series that I enjoyed when I was a kid. This book is by no means a masterpiece, the writing style is simple but I sure had a lot of fun with it. This is definitely worth reading.
"For he was Casca, the eternal mercenary, the soldier condemned to fight forever" 4*

This book is not without its faults. Pretty blatant racism/sexism. A pretty terrible plot device here or there. But its premise (immortal cursed-by-jesus warrior travels the world being immortal and being a warrior) just clicks with my inner pubescent history nerd so hard. I had this same connection with H. Rider Haggard, though HRH can occasionally write pretty beautiful prose. Sometimes you just have to enjoy books for how much fun you have reading them. If the premise appeals to you, the writing is serviceable enough that you will not regret reading this book.
It's absolute pulp. A quick, fun read with a great premise.
Ugh. I would recommend this book only to casual racists, misogynists, and people who enjoy doing what they are told. The historical facts were interesting but it sometimes felt like I was reading a textbook on Roman military tactics (and who wants facts in a story based on medieval legends?) and Sadler's mix of quasi-archaic dialogue with distinctly modern phrases was off-putting. Just re-watch Spartacus or Ben-Hur instead of reading this.
I like this book, it is the first in a series dealing with Casca. It is an interesting look at what may have happened to the roman soldier who pierced the side of Jesus as he was on the cross. Now I need to read the rest in the series
I really enjoyed this over-the-top adventure. The premise is cool, and I like how the story keeps the stakes high by making it very clear that Casca being immortal doesn’t mean he’s never in danger. Far from it. This was a fun read, and I plan to try to track down more books this series.
I keep coming back to this book about every 15 years. I'm not sure why I keep coming back but I do.
