Priscilla’s story gives you a different side of the life of Elvis and her. It’s eye opening and shocking to learn things that aren’t open to people when walking through Graceland. Tragic and also heartwarming at the same time.

3.5 Stars: Fast & easy read (but not the subject matter; Elvis was a controlling man and Priscilla was a child...)

Miss girl was a VICTIM. Thought I’d give this a read after seeing both Baz Lurman’s Elvis and Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla over the past years and I wasn’t disappointed. I think the Priscilla movie captured a lot of the details and themes of this book but missed a lot of the warmth I got from Priscilla Presley’s narration. I loved how she was giggling throughout and gave a voice to all of the anxieties and emotions she felt throughout her involvement with Elvis. I think she still has a lot to unpack but it sounds like she’s made some progression in processing her life and I wish all the best for her.

I think we have this generalized version of events that is everywhere. This memoir from Priscilla is her point of view of that general story. Is it weird that he met her at 14? Yes but he asked her parents for permission. They got to know each other as his career evolved. She finished high school and then found herself. This idea that “oh she was spoiled”. People forget that she spent her adolescence with him, that pivotal time where the rest of us have the opportunity to find parts of ourselves. She found herself during their marriage. As far as life goes, the Presley family has gone through so much. It’s really not our place to comment.
