Starting with a very emotional first chapter, Priscilla narrates how she and Elvis met, the progression of their friendship, and later dives into their dynamic as a married couple.
It is written in a simple and informal way, which makes you feel involved in reading it to find out how Pricilla felt and how she reflected on the whole situation that ended up being her actual life.
The best way to describe this memoir is eye-opening and extremely heartbreaking. You step into their world and see what happened behind the curtains from Priscilla's point of view, giving the reader private anecdotes that bring you closer to a raw and intimate version of both celebrities.
With her narrative also comes a biased pov that may mask another reality. At the end of the day, she is still a person who was emotionally and physically abused by him. He built a relationship and connection with her by manipulating her and taking advantage of the power he wielded. One of the most surreal things for me was certainly seeing how she had to grow up and adapt so quickly to a life she was thrown into.
She was 14 and he was 24 when they first met. In her own words: “He taught me everything: how to dress, how to walk, how to apply makeup and wear my hair, how to behave, how to return love—his way. Over the years he became my father, husband, and very nearly God.”

as soon as i read the prologue, i knew the book would hit. it took me a while to get through this book but every time i pick it up i realized why i was reading it because it is BEAUTIFUL. a masterpiece, priscilla was able to elucidate so much in such a concise manner. it is such a raw memoir where she perfectly encapsulates the mind of an infatuated woman to progressing and demonstrating so much self growth. so touching and so well written, will definitely re-read.
This was an interesting read. I listened to the audio book read by the author. It was fun listening to her reminisce and laugh as she told the stories of her life with Elvis.
Note: the book was written before Lisa Marie passed away as I noticed Priscilla referred to her in present tense.
