This book "gets" grief. The grief of a best friend, the grief of a child. It understands longing for a best friend.
It made me wonder if Vicky was always like that? Or if being a ghost turned her not nice? Or if she was a twisted thing for Jade to grieve with, part of Jade's mind.
Jade's dad... the tone and vibe is creepy and he's not written as evil as a result of it. I really dislike that as an adult. I've head canoned it instead as Vicky being his secret daughter and that "too fond of Vicky" stuff maybe just being fatherly affection. Cos otherwise? Ew.
I love how messy Jade's grief was. How it was funny sometimes. Made her numb or angry. Not just sad. I cried.
