I had to read this one in one sitting, I just couldn’t put it down. My only complaint is that it took me a long time to actually care about each of the main characters, but by the last quarter of the book I was hooked. The plot twist was unexpected, and I had an overall good time reading this book. I may be persuaded to pick up the sequel sometime soon...

The book started fun, got boring, got really exciting, then the ending fell flat. The resolution felt rushed and unearned, and I still have a lot of questions about the mystery, pieces that don’t really make sense. I was disappointed.

I love me when it's a ya "people are being murdered" but there's a subplot romance

For as much hype as there is surrounding this book, I found it to be extremely average. The characters do not have separate voices, so sometimes I would forget who was the current narrator. I didn’t believe for a minute that any one of the four was guilty, so there could have definitely been some improvements to make the story more interesting. I figured out who the actual killer was early on, which is not something I’m good at, so that also speaks to the quality of the book. It kept my attention and I didn’t hate it, so 3 stars instead of 2 for that and the unique idea.

Wow. What a book! I’ve been eyeing this story for a while, and I thought October would be the perfect time to read this murder mystery. I’m very glad I did, because it was an excellent time.

Even though I was able to guess the main answer to the mystery, the reveal was still incredibly satisfying. I really liked how all of the little clues throughout the story were explained in the end.

I personally think that the ending/reveal made the story so much darker and more nuanced. It left me feeling a lot of complex emotions toward the main orchestrator of Simon’s death. I feel like a really strong book will leave you battling different emotions and contemplating heavy themes, and this one (surprisingly) fits that criteria.

In general, the story felt very well fleshed-out. There was honestly not a single flat or simple character in the book. I appreciated how the main four suspects were all fully realized and had their own journeys throughout the book. Each character’s struggles and experiences tied in relevant themes in a subtle but strong way.

For some reason it feels weird to give this book a perfect 5 stars, but it would also feel weird giving it any less. Because it truly was a captivating ride, and I can’t really think of anything I didn’t like about it. 4.75-5 stars (?).
