It's 2020 when I wrote the review and I read the book in 2018 so I might forgot some things about it.
[Review]
I lowered my rating for this book
At first, I gave it 4 stars, but thinking about it again, I didn't really enjoy it that much.
I had high expectation towards this book, back in 2018. The premise sounds promising, about five students who got detention together and suddenly one of them died.
First part of the story, still followed the premise. But then, it became more and more and more dramas and teen problems. It became boring and I didn't feel attached with any of the characters.
I was looking to read a thriller-mystery book, not a romance-drama book with a little mystery in it

Two months into the year and this is my favourite book so far. I absolutely loved it! I had high expectations when I read it involved five students in detention and had a 'Breakfast Club' vibe about it, and my high expectations were met for a range of other reasons.
When one of the students die in detention, the other four are all considered suspects and the story is told from each of their viewpoints. I always enjoy stories told from different viewpoints and this was done well in this book.
Trying to work through the clues was another big part of the story that I loved and to be honest, by the time I was a third of the way into the story, I was emotionally invested in all of the characters/suspects and I was not looking forward to finding out which one was lying.
Another reason I loved the story was watching the relationships between people grow, friends and family, as well watching the characters develop confidence to be who they wanted to be. There was also a nice amount of swoon!
The ending came with a big bang and the reveal was very satisfying. As I mentioned, I loved this one - it is easily a one-sitting read, written so well that I had an instant connection with the characters and then a strong motivation to get to the end to find out the answers.

Super entertaining! I actually guessed the outcome but wasn’t sure of myself until I read the last page and the book was over. McManus keeps you guessing the whole time. So good.

Audiobook Review 4.2/5⭐️ I really enjoyed this book! I typically don’t love books where the MCs are teenagers but this one wasn’t bad. I loved how all the different characters had such different histories and storylines but they all tied together. I definitely was not expecting the ending and love the character growth that came for each of them.
I won’t mention the specific TW since it may spoil the story but if you have triggers I would check TWs before you read.
