I had been wanting to read this story for so long. SOOOOO LONG!
I don't understand why I didn't just buy it when I first saw it.
Estelle is at a point in her life where she needs to move forward. She lost her fiance a year ago and is now taking the steps she needs to to move on with her life. It has been hard for her as it is and it gets more complicate when Oliver comes back into her life. She has known him since she was a child. Best friend to her older brother, which means she is off limits. That was all well until one night that Oliver realizes that she is more to her than a "sister". But of course the warning from Victor, Elle's brother, is always hovering in the air.
Oliver has had his mind set on his future and career so that is what he is focused on. He doesn't do relationships because he doesn't want to give it partial attention when his schooling was most important to him. So even though he and Elle have had an ongoing thing he will never commit to her.
Those two together are epic and toxic all at the same time. Over the years they would get together and at first everything was well and innocent until it wasn't. Once they crossed that point Oliver left Elle with her heart shattered because he chose him and his future over her.
After the death of Wyatt, Elle's fiance, Oliver see's what he has lost and is trying to get her back. He is charming, kind, handsome, and very loyal. All good things but when he is loyal to a fault, that is where things get complicated. As Oliver doesn't want to betray Victor but his feelings for Elle are all encompassing.
I loved the chemistry that these two had. I love that the story is written in the present and past so that you get all of the emotions and understand where they are both coming from.
Sometimes when writers create this situation between their characters there is hatred from at least one side. But that isn't the case here. As they both have feelings for each other and don't want to see the other in pain. That's what I feel love should be. Caring for each other even though you are hurting yourself but because you want what is best for the other. Elle never held anything against him except that fact that he left her right after they crossed that friendship line. She wasn't whiney and she wasn't bitter towards Oliver but she was always waiting for the point that he'd leave. Oliver really didn't intend to hurt her but that's happened. He is making his amends and showing her that the days of him leaving are over. That doesn't mean that things will be easy, because they won't but it means that he's willing to do it for her.
With that heartbreak from Oliver she channeled it into her art, with Wyatt's help. She created something from the love that she had for one and felt for the other. Her Kaleidoscope Hearts. The sound of them is beautiful and even though i know they are totally fictional I can't help but want one.
This book was everything and more than I expected. The writing is excellent and the characters, primary and secondary, are amazing. I loved this book and if you like the synopsis, you should definitely give it a go!

I seen this book blow up my newsfeed, and I kept putting it off. It was a good book, It had a lot of heart, and had moments where I couldn't help but tear up.
The author did good by addressing the death of Wyatt, it wasn't put on the backburner. It was real grief.
So why 3 stars.... It was missing something. Like scenes. Elle would be mad at Oliver, and I would forgot why. I would read be like OH YEAH! Fights didn't play out. It was like the book would have a moment with a great build and then...... Nothing..... next chapter.
Elle drove me insane.
Just communicate. Meet this dude half way.

This was a good read, I liked the the characters and their chemistry. But, the conflict of the story got pretty frustrating to read about (especially because it was the same mistakes/miscommunication, on repeat). Otherwise, this might have been more of a 4 stars rating.

Beautiful Story!
Emotional sexy read. Loved Elle and Oliver's story. It was heartfelt. Kicking myself for not reading this sooner. Claire Contreras is now a one click author for me. Definitely a must read. Can not wait to dive into the rest of this series.

Second chance romances hold a special place in my heart. This is a perfect example as to why I love them. We get to see the growth of both Elle and Oliver and get to understand why things did not work out the first time around. The tension omg this had me sucked in and I couldn’t put this one down.
