I ended up realizing that this was a re-read about two chapters into this book, but that is okay because I always enjoy Coben's stories. Michael Silverman is a basketball player married to a famous tv reporter. They end up finding out that he is HIV positive and there's a serial killer targeting the patients of the clinic he is treated in. Turns out that the clinic might have found a cure for AIDS and the murders could be someone trying to cover it up.

As a fan of Harlan Coben who has read most, if not all, of his books, I was eager to read this early effort.

I took the author's note at the beginning of the page to heart and lowered my expectations. It was interesting to see some of the character types that would be developed and honed in his later work.

Plot-wise, it was weird and a bit sad to read a novel about the AIDS crisis 20 years ago that is still quite relevant today.

Overall, it was too long and I'm not sure it was fully the fault of a young writer or the lack of a good editor.

I think this is my first adventure into reading Harlan Coben books and I'm intrigued to read more books by him, however I didn't think this was a great book. Entertaining enough yes but I can see why my copy had a note by him saying this wasn't his best book, think it was his second book published. I'm interested to see how much he improved in later novels. But the book it self had a good amount of suspense and rather interesting plot.

This book didn't age very well, but I skimmed over all the medical explanations and stuff and it was alright in the end. Not my favorite by this author

Generally a fan, but this one was painful. Credit to Harlan as an author overall, and seriously happy to have finally finished this book. Moving on.
