My thoughts may change as I digest the story more but overall I think I was a pretty solid book. I feel like the first one went deeper into the character's conflict of being enemies that fall in love with each other and I honestly liked that a lot. This one felt more like the typical enemies to lovers story were despite the high stakes the characters keep doing stupid things because they're in love (not literally, but that was the general feeling). It has its moments, but it felt a lot more shallow. The story expanded the world building considerably which makes the plot a lot richer. However at times it felt to me like too much and not enough pages for it so a lot of the new elements weren't explained enough. I loved seeing Marek and Sefa POVs. At first I didn't understand what was the point of having them in the story, but it all made sense at the end. I like the first book better, but this one was pretty fun too.

I will admit that it took me about a 150 pages to get into this, but once I was on board it really delivered. The pace is slower than the first book, and it was a good lesson for me how rewarding it can be when you let a book take its time. The writing is so beautiful and well thought out. The characters are incredible. I feel conflicted about the ending. Ten years is such a long time for Arin and Sefa to be so depressed. If I die prematurely, I would hope my husband would move on with his life at least in a couple of years. If Arin doesn't want to date- fine, but couldn't he have found a really fulfilling hobby or mentored a kid or something? Suffering so intensely for ten years doesn't prove your love, it proves your unwillingness to seek help and try to be healthy.
