What a delightful murder mystery. Madeline Brimley returns to her hometown of Enigma when her Aunt Rose dies and leaves her bookstore to her. However, things start to go awry the first night. The gazebo in the backyard is set on fire, Madeline gets threatening phone calls and when a sweet local girl, Tandy Fletcher is murdered in the bookstore, Madeline, her Aunt Rose’s best friend Philomena, and the local Episcopalian priest, Gloria, get together to solve the murder.
What a fun bunch of characters, this is a small southern town at its best. A smart aleck priest, good ole boys who are not what you expect, a good-looking fireman, a handyman who knows Shakespeare and just small town people knowing all your business. This was a fun read, I zipped right through this, enjoying the characters, the murder, the atmosphere of the people who lived in the town and the setting of a town where everyone know your name. Characters made me smile, the murder mystery was on point and not easily solved, I just wanted to go into the bookstore, sit down and have a cup of coffee with these characters. Good mystery, fun characters, you will be flipping pages to see how it ends. Can’t wait for the next installment. Nicely done!

Madeline returns to the small town of Enigma after her aunt’s death to take over her home/bookshop. Almost immediately the backyard gazebo is set on fire, anonymous threats toward the house are made, and a murder happens.
A delightful, quick and easy read, filled with lots of twists and turns, but with small town book vibes. Plus potential for more books to be written.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.

Madeline has inherited her aunt's bookstore and moved home to live in and run it. Only someone doesn't want her there. She has been threatened, there have been fires and her new friend has been murdered. She, her aunt's friend and a lady priest have decided to solve the case and they have some wild theories and some fun doing it. This was a great cozy mystery and I loved the friendship these ladies had.

I'm a sucker for a good cozy mystery, and this Southern cozy mystery was the perfect companion for a cold winter night, complete with a glass of wine and a comfy blanket. Madeline Brimley inherits her Aunt Rose's bookstore in the quirky town of Enigma, Georgia, where she spent many a childhood vacation. She's all set to start anew, but things quickly take a turn for the weird. The locals are less than welcoming, and someone's clearly got it in for her - I mean, who needs a warm welcome when you can have a burning gazebo, threatening phone calls, and a bookstore fire? And then, because things weren't exciting enough, a murder happens. But Madeline's no quitter, and she's determined to get to the bottom of things. As she digs deeper, she discovers that her aunt was sitting on some pretty big secreta that can affect whole town. Can Madeline figure out whodunit, or will she be the next victim? The supporting cast, including Reverend Gloria, Philomena, and David the handyman, add some much-needed humor and intrigue to the story. All in all, this was a fantastic start to a new cozy mystery series, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.

This was a really fun read! Nothing too complicated, but lots of fun small town drama. Makes me feel like I need to go on a mystery kick.
