i needed a quick, easy book to read while i was sick in bed, and this was exactly that. nothing life-changing and i found it a bit saccharine at times, but i got through it in an evening. it feels quite YA, and it reminded me of the books i read as a teenager which was nice and nostalgic.

Complicated feelings on this one, tragically. I really enjoyed parts of this. This was, overall, a really interesting read, but I also realized that while I was having a good time reading it and I was interested to see how things unfolded, I felt deeply disconnected with the characters. Something about the way this was written just made me feel like there was a veil in between me and the characters, like it was all being told to me by an outside observer. It was just a strange sensation.

I'm glad I stuck it out through the realization that there were no quotation marks to be seen, though.
