I really liked this one...and I think we oughta consider it for our Mother/Daughter Book group. So many angles. I would love to talk about it with you!

Indigo Skye doesn't need any help figuring things out. She's a senior in high school with a boyfriend she loves, a loving family, and a job she really cares about. Although her parents are pressuring her to go to college, Indigo doesn't want to go until she really knows what she wants to study. And right now, she's loving being a waitress at a local diner. Then a wealthy customer gives her 2.5 million dollars and even though she's determined not to change because of the money, somehow Indigo's entire world ends up changing anyway.

Deb Caletti's got a great turn of phrase and parts of this book were laugh-out-loud funny. Indigo is an interesting character and the situation is definitely thought-provoking. I think this book will appeal to many teens and I might recommend it to fans of Sarah Dessen or Carolyn Mackler. That said, I personally didn't really connect with Indigo and found her a little bit annoying which made it hard for me to care very much about her problems. I really liked the supporting cast, though.

Okay, 50 pages in and I give up. Nothing has happened. The characters aren't compelling. And though I'm definitely not a prude in the least, the overuse of swearing for no purpose which does not develop character really, really bothers me. The "f" bomb dropped by page 5 was entirely unnecessary, as was the rest. I think it's weak writing if you have to rely on swearing to attempt to develop a character. It's weaker when it doesn't even do that. I usually can hang on more than 50 pages, but this one was going no where.

The two things I've noticed the most about other reviews for this book are how many of Caletti's books they've read in the past and that they are overall disappointed in this book. So, up front, this is my fourth book I've read by Deb Caletti. It was the most disappointing one so far.

I think the idea of the story is overall decent, but the book is just SO slow and honestly, just not that exciting. Also, I hate Trevor. Their relationship is everything I hate. They're 18, high school seniors and apparently supposed to be making every decision together as if they're married, when actually they're not even engaged. Their relationship doesn't even feel serious, it just feels like a thing we're all supposed to accept. Trevor gets all offended that Indigo doesn't automatically want to pay to fix up His mustang, because apparently the two of them being an "us" means it's "their money". It was irritating. The book was blah. I recommend putting this book down and picking of a different title my Caletti.

The characters in this book were too similar to those in "Honey, Baby, Sweetheart" and that bothered me. Otherwise it's a good story about what sudden changes occur in your life when you find yourself with a large sum of money.

If i hadn't identified with the main character so much, I probably would have found this book not so good. But Indigo went through a lot of the same things I'm going through right now (minus the 2.5 million dollars) and it was good to see her becoming herself, even if this is only fiction. It was hopeful and a little inspiring; I guess I just read it at the right time.
On the other hand, some parts (like nearly every single rich person being a stuck-on-themselves jerk) were cliche and annoyingly predictable.

Halfway through the book, I was ready to put it down because Indigo began to annoy me, but I'm glad I kept reading. The ending was such a good one, and it really wrapped up the entire story well.

I was worried that this was going to be a 3.5 star book, but Caletti saved it with a really sweet ending. Indigo isn’t perfect and neither is this book, but it sure was a fun ride. Even when I wasn’t completely enjoying the book, the unique cast of characters made up for the pacing and plotting flaws.
