Untuk pertama kalinya, lebih suka versi film daripada buku.
Lebih terasa serunya saat ditonton, sementara di buku terasa biasa saja.
Walau begitu, saya tetap suka dengan maksud yang hendak disampaikan buku ini.
*lalu cari dvd the lorax

I had never read this one. I feel like I have to give it 4 stars, even though it sent me spiraling into depression about late-stage capitalism and rising seas. Sigh.
October 29, 2019 Update - I just watched the 2012 animation of The Lorax and thought it was a decent enough sequel to the book and original cartoon. I've nearly forgotten that the book starts and ends with the Once-ler telling a boy the story of the Lorax. The 2012 Movie focuses mainly on the story of why the boy went to seek out the Once-ler and what happened to the boy after the Once-ler shared his story (which I think is a pretty interesting take on Dr. Seuss' original book).
Also, the Truffula Trees in this movie looks so soft and beautiful!

October 27, 2019 Update - I just watched the 1972 cartoon of The Lorax (you can watch it on Youtube, here).

For a children's book, I think I would rate this book 3/5 (because of the made-up words, which is just lazy rhyming in my opinion), but as someone with a degree in Environmental Studies, I can't help but appreciate the message that Dr. Seuss shares in this story. So I'm bumping up my original 3-star rating to 4 stars.

Original Review:
I’m not the biggest fan of the overuse of silly words in this book but I do love the message that this book conveys. The Lorax is the spokesperson for all the trees and creatures in his realm. He is an environmentalist who is against the Once-ler’s practice of chopping down the Truffula trees and using the tufts to mass-produce Thneeds. This ‘Thneed’ seems to stand for ‘THings I don’t really NEED’ and represents all the useless things we buy at the expense of the environment.
This book also seems like a great introduction for children to learn about corporate greed and its environmental impacts.
I don't know how I feel about teaching kids silly made-up words though... reading words like "biggered" and "biggering" might encourage kids to actually use them.

Original Review:
“Mister!” he said with a sawdusty sneeze,
“I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees.
I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.
And I’m asking you, sir, at the top of my lungs” -
He was very upset as he shouted and puffed -
“What’s that THING you’ve made out of my Truffula tuft?”

I meant no harm. I most truly did not.
But I had to grow bigger. So bigger I got.
I biggered my factory. I biggered my roads.
I biggered my wagons. I biggered the loads
Of the Thneeds I shipped out. I was shipping them forth
To the South! To the East! To the West! To the North!
I went right on biggering… selling more Thneeds.
And I biggered my money, which everyone needs.
This book also seems like a great introduction for children to learn about corporate greed and its environmental impacts.

PB 13. I LOVE Dr. Seuss. His books were a huge part of my childhood. However, I had never read this one before today. I loved it. It was so heartbreaking, but still hopeful. I can't wait to use this in my classroom one day to talk about conservation and the environment, or even about greed. There are so many good lessons in this book. I think Dr. Seuss's stories open up imagination in ways that very few other authors can do, and this book is no exception. As an adult, his words still pull my heartstrings.
