I’ll start with what I did like about this book. For one, the characters are the star of the show and steal the limelight from the plot holes that run rampant after about halfway through the novel.

I love novels that are inspiring and hopeful, but this book went beyond saccharine. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes many, many times. 

The concept was neat, but extremely rushed. It felt as though this book was trying to be two different things and, by doing so, failed at both. On the one hand, it wanted to be a book on the triumph of the human spirit, but the waters got muddled as the mysteries behind the seagrass became a central focus. I liked the book less the more I read it.
