Sweet story, I love how distinct the characters are. It was a slow start getting the characters straight as there are so many of them right from the get go. I kept having to flip back to remember which kid was which at first. I did not always find the character motivations all that believable, you just have to accept flimsy reasoning sometimes, but all in all a good message of family and love and community.

I love the Vanderbeekers, their neighbors, the whole street, the hijinks, and the Christmas celebrations! I laughed so much. This book confirms that I want to have five children...maybe.

I thought this book was really well written. I especially liked that there was a reason behind Mr. Biederman not renewing their lease and I honestly felt bad for him. I also was happy that he wasn't the really awful guy that the family thought he was. I also enjoyed the different points of view on the situation of the five different kids.

I LOVED this - what a great story of a tight-knit family! They live in a brownstone in New York and are told, by their landlord, that they will need to move...in just a few days. None of the kids want to move so they set out to change the landlord’s mind....but no idea is without it’s problems...almost making things worse. I loved this for the strong family role and the kindness that abounds in this tender story.
