Another tiktok find and if hate is not a strong word i think i'd use this on this one. Ok i get how the male lead needs to be hateful, living up to his name and a Grade-A jerk but he's being mean, rude and condescending TO his love interest and nope that's not the worst part of it, I reached my boiling point when she TOOK it all casually.
#Smutathon Book 2
TW: Hard Bullying Scenes, Physical and Mental Abuse, and Drug Use
OMG this book is so intense but so good. Super ADDICTIVE I could hardly stop reading, it's not my usual type of reading but I really enjoyed it, I know there are many dark and bad things with the book but it's SO good

4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

This book follows the complicated, disturbed and twisted relationship between Vicious, an unscrupulous and powerful young man and Emilia, a humble and innocent young woman who would do anything for her family. This is a dark romance between two people from different worlds with such a strong attraction that will cross all boundaries.
Oh, this book! I loved it and enjoyed every second, well, said that I enjoyed it will be a lie, cause I also suffered and had many other feelings, but basically I think it's 100% addictive, it's very difficult to stop reading once you start. The story takes place between jumps in time, it begins when they were teenagers until they're adults. We follow both Emilia's and Vicious' POVs, which I love in this type of romance because it makes you tie things together and understand what goes through each one of their heads when making decisions.
I really admire Emilia's character, not because I justify all her actions, of course, but because she protects her sister and her parents and everything she has sacrificed for them is really incredible. I felt so bad for her in so many moments I just wanted to hug her, & Vicious, on the other hand, I hate him for most of the book, but at the same time I think he's a character with a lot of presence, very powerful, dark and extremely interesting to follow. You know there's something very wrong in his mind but anyway you can't stop wanting to know more and more about him, his past and his true desires. I think he's a very addictive and well-created character, even though in real life he would be extremely creepy, you know? LOL
It's not a book with a healthy romance, and I'm pretty aware of that, there are many bad things happening most of the time, but in the end I like the growth of the characters, and as Emilia becomes stronger and more determined, while Vicious manages to soften his heart a little and begin to consider his true feelings. It doesn't justify, though, all the shit that Vicious makes Emilia go through, but I wanted to mention it.
Besides being very easy and quick to read, I think it has incredible dialogues, each scene with dialogues makes you feel that you're physically there at that moment and really get you involved with the plot even more.
I also liked the secondary characters I think that each one has a super important role in the plot and each one contributes a good scene, especially Vicious friends, all have wicked minds and they're not good people, but it's very interesting for me to see how strong is the bond that unites them, and despite being confronted each other several times, they're like brothers and that will not change.
The sex scenes are VERY GOOD, I haven't read many in my life so I don't have much to compare to, but these are really intense, so as stimmy romance, is perfect. It has many explicit scenes so if that's something you don't like I recommend discretion or that you don't read it, because it's really quite crude in that aspect. It also has a lot of inappropriate language.
This book is SO INCREDIBLE, I didn't expect at all to like it so much, it was a surprise, but it ends up having everything I was looking for at that moment, I spent a great time reading it, although I still have many emotions and I can't explain it because spoilers, but I hope that if you're interested in dark romances you decide to read it!, I know you'll not regret it. If you're a sensitive person or you don't enjoy this type of male character, powerful and cruel, I don't think it's the book for you.

this book always kept me hooked, can't wait to read the other hotholes stories.
My first DNF of 2023! Look I love a grumpy sunshine, I love an enemy to lovers, what I don’t love is a straight up hateful bully. The MMC isn’t his book is horrible to everyone he knows. A rich kid that had an abusive life and is taking it out on everyone around him. He decides he likes his servants daughter Emilia but instead of being nice to her he calls her “Help” and destroys her life and future. Then 10 years later decides she would be useful to him so he goes and finds her to use her for his needs. Once again he bullies, humiliates and still calls her Help and she falls for all of it and let’s him. Instead of telling him to F off she falls for this awful human that has destroyed her life! I made it 55% and could deal with it anymore.
I tried to read this before and stopped reading around 15-20%. People said give it another chance, which I did. I ended up loving it and now have the rest of the series.
I used to think that I was the intended audience for these type of books but that wasn’t really the case here. Let’s just say I almost couldn’t stand Vicious, he had some redeeming qualities but overall I honestly hated how he would treat everyone and I was not liking his POV chapters.
I liked Millie though, she would hold her ground and she was an okay character. I did find myself enjoying some scenes (you know which scenes I’m talking about) and wasn’t completely hating the story but it wasn’t enough for me to realllly like this book.
The 4 hot holes are the most annoying characters though and I still don’t love Vicious. Most likely not gonna read the next book

"3.5 Stars"
For the most part, this book was pretty good. I have mixed feelings about this book because there are some moments where I literally couldn't stop smiling and then there are times where I just wanted to shake both the characters out of their stupidity.
Vicious/(Baron)
I both loved and hated him. During the flashbacks to the past, I couldn't stand him. I mean I understood his way of thinking but it still didn't justify the way he and his friends treated Millie. I felt like his excuse for treating her bad was not good enough. I also felt like he didn't genuinely apologize for all the wrongs he did in the past and the present. I only truly started to like Vic when he actually started to let Millie in and tell her the reasons why he treated her so badly when they were kids. Towards the middle/end of the book he finally stopped leaving her in the dark and making her feel like everything was her fault. I think I didn't fully love Vicious until I saw that he wasn't just playing with Millie's feelings and that he truly wanted to try and make their relationship work.
Millie/(Emilia)
I liked Millie. I felt like she was a strong character and knew when to say enough was enough. I feel like with books like this it's easy to end up hating the heroine because the authors don't give them a backbone and then we end up watching them get walked over the entire book. Yes, Millie did put up with a lot of Vic's crap and at times she did piss me off because she took him back too easily but towards the end she really made him work for it and that satisfied my inner bitch.
Overall
Overall this was a good book. It had well-developed characters, humor, love, drama, and friendship.
P.S - If I could've changed one thing about this book it would've been Vic's background story. His stepmothers' motives didn't seem that believable to me.

Spoiler
When he stood outside in the cold waiting hours for Millie's showing to be over and when he walked her home every day for months I swooned so hard.Millie/(Emilia)

When her parents took a job working for the Spencer family, Emilia LeBlanc was forced to live on the same premises as one of the rudest, over-privileged hot assholes at her new high school, Baron Spencer a.k.a. Vicious. In fact, he along with 3 of his best friends were known as the HotHoles of All Saints High. They were attractive, arrogant jerks that every girl wanted and every guy wanted to be. That made it all the more difficult for Emilia to find friends her senior year. Vicious didn’t like her so that meant almost no one else gave her a chance either. He went out of his way to make her life miserable and to make sure she knew how much he disliked her. Never understanding what she did to inspire such hatred, Emilia did her best to stay out of his way until it was time for her to leave for college. That became impossible when she began dating one of his friends which not only inserted her more into his life, but also exponentially increased the cruelty he directed her way.
Years later, Vicious and Emilia meet again. They both need something from each other. To acquire it, they will have to spend lots of time together. What happens when they are forced to face each other and the root of their feelings after all of these years?

I read Sparrow in October of last year and fell in love with it. Consequently, going into this book my expectations were extremely high, and I could have easily been setting myself up for disappointment because of that. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. Vicious far exceeded my expectations in every way!
They say there is a thin line between love and hate, and Vicious and Emilia walked that line like a tightrope. Vicious’ touch made Emilia shiver with both repulsion and delight. When she challenged him, it pissed him off and turned him on with equal measure. Their heated glances contained both longing and disgust, and their verbal exchanges were laced with frustration, anger, and lust. All of these conflicting emotions made for some amazing sexual tension. Not only that, it kept me interested to see why Vicious felt the way he did, what was going to happen now that they had to confront what was going on between them then and now, and how it all would end.

L. J. Shen firmly planted herself on my list of favorite authors with this book. The woman can write a complicated hero like no other. Vicious Spencer is broken, tortured, and cruel, and somehow she was able to endear him to me. Maybe it was the way he behaved as if nothing mattered to him, but deep down everything did. Maybe it was that he never allowed himself to be truly vulnerable except when he was with Emilia. I don’t know. All I know is that she did it with absolute perfection. His redemption was flawless. He changed and groveled just enough for you to fully love him without changing who he was completely and unrealistically.
Emilia was a heroine that was easy to love. She was kind, caring, selfless, quirky, creative, hardworking, playful, and beautiful. Watching her put her dreams on hold to care for her sister was truly touching. The way she endured so much hardship, but never let that keep her down was inspiring. Her complete acceptance and enduring love for Vicious despite his many flaws was moving.
Vicious frustrated me, thrilled me, captivated me, and entertained me from beginning to end. It was a little bit of a slow burn, but I didn’t mind in the least. When Emilia and Vicious were together, it was hot no matter what they were doing. The plot was perfectly paced and brilliantly executed, the writing was impeccable, and the characters were expertly crafted. If asshole heroes are your thing, take my word for it, this is not be missed!

I love books with tortured souls and this one did not disappoint. This was my first book by LJ but now I'm about to go read the rest!
