I think old children’s classics just aren’t for me at this point. My main problem isn't even how infuriating and frustrating Pinocchio was, it’s the lack of consistency of the plot and the among of unrealistic scenes and resolutions. Pinocchio goes from adventure to adventure, putting himself and those he supposedly loves in stupid and dangerous situations due to his youth and naivety, providing the author with the perfect opportunities to hammer moral after moral on his young readers.
These morals could have been effective, if Pinocchio had actually learned from them and not repeated the same mistakes over and over again. I would also like to know what made the author think that summarizing each chapter in detail at their beginning would be a good idea. I much preferred the Disney version.

I mean...this book was weird. SO goddamn weird. But I enjoyed it...? Infinitely darker than the movie - like so much darker. But....ok? I don’t know.

I really wanted to read the classic! Why not? I love intertexts so I might as well read the original.
MAN. Is this one absolutely bonkers! Disney really got this one to its roots and bones and made it... almost better?
Regardless, this one was a delight and amusing at times. Apparently, it's one of the most translated books in the world! Who would have guessed.
Anywho, Pinocchio is a mess and constantly gets in trouble. Geez, louise. Definitely not a book for kids now, but a really cool classic read.
Three out of five stars.
