Just found it boring tbh.

I enjoyed James Baldwin’s beautiful and almost ethereal writing style - although I struggled sometimes with it because English is my second language. Nevertheless, this book is a must-read! It explores the struggle of coming to terms with one’s sexuality, manhood and societal expectations. The book also depicts life in Paris in such a perfect manner. Although I haven’t lived there, I could feel the vibe.

there is this particular quote i always think about when i think of giovanni's room: david wakes up to see giovanni and he is golden and rosy and the description is wonderful (and every time i think about it i want to rip my heart out and eat glass). i noted it down somewhere but i lost it. i've scoured the world wide web for it to no end. i guess it is just the way that everything in giovanni's room and giovanni and david and baldwin's writing are ephemeral and slip through the fingers of anyone who tries to hold them. can you tell this is my favorite book ever?
