LORD ALMIGHTY !!

okay i don’t want to be too mean here but this has to be one of the worst books i’ve read in a while. so many plot holes & the “world building” was so messy from the beginning & throughout. for a highly acclaimed book you would think something interesting would happen but the 20+ minute chapters of absolutely nothing killed my enjoyment. none of the characters were likeable & the fmc in particular was insufferable! i won’t lie the first 30% was alright and i did enjoy where it was going however the remaining 70% was poor.

The character development was oddly fast and I wish the relationships between the main characters was built out more. I felt like the book jumped to conclusions very quickly.

I mostly just listened to this because it was a free audiobook through my library's Hoopla that I could listen to on longer drives. It was good for that because the plot was linear and dramatic enough that if I missed a bit due to my GPS talking it was fine.

This was a great read. Aveyard is a great storyteller and puts lots if emotion in her writing. She kept me guessing on who I should trust. She has characters I love and characters I love to hate. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I read Powerless by Lauren Roberts before I read this so, initially, I found myself comparing the similarities between the two books.

Although the plot is strikingly similar, the differences is what makes me love this book in a different way to Powerless.

A super quick read. I was able to visualise the world very easily. Definitely a top 10 book for me.
