What an absolute trip! I’ve read Catriona Ward before and I’m always amazed at how she can weave such convoluted tales. I decided to go in blind with this one and mainly based my decision to read this on the amazing cover. I love psychological horrors and Ward does these very well so I knew I was in good hands, but I had absolutely no clue where this book was going most of the time. I found this to have really strange pacing. It was a fairly slow beginning and the suddenly speeds up exponentially. Now having finished this book I understand why. Nothing is as it seems and trust nothing that you read. Near the end I actually got full on chills reading this. I gasped! I yelled at my book! It was a visceral experience. Was it confusing? Of course! But this was really fun, especially as you progress and learn what exactly is happening. It’s a unique horror and I  recommend reading if you’re into feeling confused and unsettled.

interesting story, very engaging, a little too crazy

This was good over all, but slightly confusing. There’s a lot of stuff going on, events are repeated over and over again, characters change unexpectedly, that leads to plot holes. I found myself asking when did these people change? The ending kind of fell apart for me.

In this creepy and twisty novel, Wilder, an awkward teenager, finally makes friends when his family spends the summer at their seaside cottage. Unfortunately, the trio uncover a horrific truth that will forever change their lives.
