Having completed the difficult and dangerous trials, Morrigan Crow is finally being inducted into the Wundrous Society. She can’t wait to get to know her unit, the promised brothers and sisters she so longs for, and to start a Wundrous education. Unfortunately for Morrigan not everyone is so excited about her joining the Society. The Society Elders only want to teach her about how evil Wundersmiths are, and her unit are scared and wary of her. When people begin to go missing suspicion falls on Morrigan, and she must do everything in her power to prove she isn’t the evil entity behind the disappearances.
I dived into this straight off the back of the first book in the Nevermoor series, and have no regrets. I’m loving the series, and can’t wait to see where it goes.
This book picks up immediately after the end of book 1, so it worked well reading them back to back. We’ve already got the scene set, Nevermoor is a familiar world now, so this book can focus on developing the characters further. I really liked how this focuses on Morrigan’s talents as a Wundersmith and how she is learning to master her skills.
The burgeoning friendshop between Morrigan and Cadence continues in this story, I’m looking forward to seeing that develop further and hopefully learning more about Cadence. We also start to build up a better picture of the rest of Morrigan’s unit too.
One of my favourite things about this book is that it really builds on book 1 and takes things on a darker path. This time there is more at stake, more bad guys and the adults aren’t there to save the day.
My second favourite thing about this book (and series) is that there is a clear promise of plenty more to come. I’m not sure how many books Jessica Townsend is planning to write but the hints suggest there will be quite a few.
This is definitely a series that adults can enjoy as well as younger readers. Whether that is as a read along or, like myself, purely for enjoyment. I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Moves along more quickly than Nevermoor. An exquisite world and exciting developments -- only wish Jupiter wasn't so frustrating and opaque! Morrigan has more patience with him than I do.

Book 2 in the Morrigan Crow series does not disappoint. The scene about the treats alley was just 👌. Can’t wait for the 3rd one.
