Hilarious! Instant favorite. So few words, but so many laughs.
Fine, I guess? Less of a dark ending than the bear one. Good artwork.
It's all in the eyes. Klassen's eyeballs communicate suspicion, sneakiness, cluelessness and more. They tell practically half the story.
But tucked around the shifty eyes is a small fish who steals a big fish hat, and then blithely swims away, congratulating themself on a clean getaway. But there's a narc in the water, and the determined, hatless, big fish is in hot pursuit.
Will the small fish get away with the hat heist?
Winner of the 2013 Caldecott Medal.

Darkly humorous, but I think it has more adult appeal than child appeal. And while it's obviously not a sequel to [b:I Want My Hat Back|11233988|I Want My Hat Back|Jon Klassen|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327888784s/11233988.jpg|16160067], the tone and story arc are very much the same.
A tiny fish steals a hat from a huge fish...but is confident that he will get away with it. But the huge fish wakes up and goes out searching for its hat.
The illustrations complement the text...even if it it telling a different version of the story. A great choice for reading aloud to a storytime or to a slightly older crowd (grades K-2).
