I love when there is tension between the words and the illustration, and this book is a prime example of that. I also love consequences for lying. ;)

Not as much of a fun surprise as the last one, but pretty good.
Another great story about a hat. This time under the sea!

Y'all are not gonna believe this but it's not his hat!!!
This year's Caldecott Medal winner, I love. I wasn't too thrilled with the black cover and muted colors initially but the illustrations are wonderfully juxtaposed against the text. Fun story.
WHY are The Hat books so dang cute... That's the question everybody should be asking. The illustrations, the plots, the HATS. Everything about this book looks effortless, even the doublespread with all the seaweed. And yet, everything is so purposeful at the same time. I'm constantly impressed with Klassen's work. So far, my expectations have only been exceeded, and I don't see that changing at any time in the near future.
