An excellent picture book for use with children of all ages. The text is cleverly written but the pictures are the real winners for me, they tell a slightly different tale to that of our narrator making this a story which could be used as a prompt for lots of rich discussion. Darkly humorous, this book will appeal to a broad range of children aged 4+ and be a pleasure to read aloud for the adults in their lives too!
I absolutely loved this 2013 Caldecott award winner! What is better than a snarky little fish who will get his comeuppance? Readers will enjoy the illustration so at odds with the words, as the big fish goes to get his hat back. Fun for all ages!

to be perfectly honest i was not planning to add this to goodreads because i don't think that i can rate a picture book. but ive decided to anyways! back in october, while trawling my college library's very small fiction section, i noticed this and read it standing there because i like jon klassen's art. and it was very fun! and the art was very good! a success overall i would say
This was very meh. The illustration style is lovely but the story is just barely ok.
This book almost started a civil war at work. Did the big fish eat the little fish? As a Guelph in this particular conflict, I say yes; but the Ghibellines of literary interpretation argued that, no, he only … took the hat back. (Sure.)
An abyss-staring tale of how the strong take what they can and the weak suffer what they must. Also an excellent team-destroying exercise, if you are looking for one.
