Cute, fun, doesn't take itself too seriously. Good book for getting you out of a reading slump if you like grumpy-meets-happy romances with an academia twist.

Well. That was something.

I went into this with low expectations, not expecting much of out of the romance but hoping it would at least be funny. The first 20% of it was entertaining, so I was somewhat positive about the story, but then everything went downhill from there. It was just so boring! Also, I didn't like any of the characters, mostly because of how bland they were. Adam was just a boring love interest, and Olive wasn't much better of a character. Her friends were just overly annoying? I just didn't feel emotionally connected to ANY of the characters ever. Also a lot of the plot points just felt weird and wildly unrealistic. Don't get me started on the sex scene, that was like nails on a chalkboard bad. I had to force myself to keep reading for a friend.

However, there were scraps of a good story in here, and I could understand why other people like it. I also can understand that this book isn't utter trash, it just wasn't for me.

I loved this book. I got super engrossed halfway through and considered skipping work today to finish it lol. The plot was fantastic, and I loved the relevant spin on women in STEM and their struggles. Adam was also a very lovable character. Olive was slightly annoying, but she had good and realistic motivations behind all her dumb decisions, unlike a lot of rom-com MCs, which I really appreciated. This book was addicting and had me grinning to myself. Loved it.

Content warning: it does have some super explicit sexual content, but I skipped those two chapters. Ali Hazelwood also has content warnings on her website, which I really appreciated knowing beforehand <3

It’s a predictable cute story, I liked the nerdy vibes and I love sunshine and grumpy tropes but the miscommunication was frustrating. The awareness that it is a fake dating trope was also refreshing.
However I did like that their relationship didn’t scream toxic. The biggest problem really was the lack of communication at times.
Also if my friend or partner was a complete asshole. I‘d like to know about that. I don’t know why people always want to cover up for them.

Olive is most likely Demisexual. It wasn’t explicitly named but she is clearly described like that.

I’ve read that it was originally a Reylo fanfiction and I definitely see it 😂 somehow it made it even more entertaining for me. It felt like finding Easter eggs.  Now I feel like reading Reylo Fanfics again.
