~ Review for Hollow & Legend ~

Hollow : 2.75
Legend : 2.25
General rating : 2.5

I was so excited to read this duet, and it saddens me to say it didn’t do it for me.

There were some elements I liked a lot. The atmosphere, the gothic/spooky vibes, the mystery around the school, and the general idea of the story were really interesting.

The plot itself was what interested me in the first place, but these books are not focused on the plot at all. In fact, there was very little action, the important parts of the plot were underdeveloped, toward the end everything was rushed, and the story fell flat for me. I wanted more of the headless horseman, more about the witches and the coven.

What completely lost me was the characters, and the lack of credibility in their relationship. Nothing felt natural, their dynamic felt off, and I didn’t care about them at all. As the book is mainly focus on them, I was really bored most of the time.

So this was a real disappointment for me, but if my view of the characters had been different, it would’ve changed my entire experience with these books, and I would’ve liked it. But as it is, it didn’t work.

I wanted to dnf this book a couple of times but didn’t, I wanted to see how the headless horseman was presented in this book and hated how he was. Brom literally showed no signs of being a witch when he’s introduced and then surprise he is.

Katrina’s mother also bothers me a great deal with how ok she is with letting her daughter have sex outside of wedlock, especially for the time period. We also still don’t know her mother’s motives or anything of why she shouldn’t be trusted, just that we shouldn’t.

I loved this Sleepy Hollow retelling. I will tell you I watched Sleepy Hollow such a long time ago, that I don’t really remember it. Other than Johnny Depp being his amazing self and Christina Ricci being gorgeous.

I had to set those images aside to enjoy this book. The Crane, Kat, and Brom I think of in my head are not the same as the movie versions. They're much taller and more muscular...

The spice in this book was ON POINT. Ms. Halle never disappoints with the spicy scenes. If you're looking for a spicy intriguing love story, go no further. This is it.

The story and character development started off slow in the beginning, which made it a little hard for me to concentrate. But once things started to pick up and there was action and thrills, I was hooked.

I’m happy Legend comes out on the 30th because this leaves you on a huge cliffhanger of wanting more.

*massive spoilers ahead*

I had a feeling Kat’s mom was a little sketchy and I’m curious to know how her part in all of this plays out. I am also not a huge fan of Brom, even in his situation. I’m team Crane all the way.
