Not as good as other books by this author

It took awhile for this one to hook me. It didn't really interest me until it got closer to the end. Still a good read, but I'd recommend the authors other books over this one.

2.5 rounded to 3

This is one of those books that I had to push myself hard to finish. I really struggled to stay interested less than half way through. It starts off strong but it gives the eyebrow raising plot that an audience less versed in thrillers would enjoy.

Sometimes authors do this thing where they write books like they’re movies, and often it doesn’t translate well. This book seems like it would make a better novella. Given the way it started, it should’ve been shortened by 25%

Run on Red follows two college students: Olivia, a over nervous, paranoid true crime addict and Laura, the free spirited and light hearted social butterfly. While on their way to a bonfire party hosted by their fellow college students, the girls realise that they are being stalked by a pickup truck, whose driver surely has malicious intentions.

This started off promising; heart racing, leaving me on the edge of my seat, and tense. The cat-and-mouse suspense built up within the first few chapters slowly fades away into a boring plot that drags its feet before rushing through a hasty, dissatisfying ending.

I found little sympathy for the heroines, who came off as whimpering and doe eyed to me. I would have liked to see them put up a bit more of a fight, or possibly turn the game on its head and become the hunter’s of their captors. Instead, they cowered in the basement for half of the book and kept endlessly mucking around with a cell phone, despite repeatedly discovering a lack of service.

A little disappointing in all!

Quick escapist read that you will fly through. Definitely requires lots of suspension of disbelief and the main character makes some frustrating decisions but overall I enjoyed this.

Run on Red by Noelle W. Ihli - Rating: 1/5⭐️

As Laura and Olivia make their way to a bonfire in the woods of Idaho, a case of suspected road rage turns disastrous as a truck of masked men run them off the side of the road. A night of fun turning to a night of survival.

LIKES:
👍🏾 Had a promising beginning. Jumped right into it from the get-go with the eerie isolated setting.
👍🏾 Highlighted sexual violence against women, strong-willed women, and true crime knowledge. But, unfortunately, none of it really amounted to anything.

DISLIKES:
👎🏾 The plot was an average basic storyline that was pretty predictable. And then as the story progressed the plot became unbelievable.
👎🏾 The characters were very basic in the beginning as well. I liked their connection. But I was quickly annoyed by Liv and her inner monologues.
👎🏾 A lot of repetition and dragged out or unimportant details. It was just under 300 pages and yet, it somehow took forever. It almost moved to fast, yet felt so slow at the same time.
👎🏾 So many inconsistencies in the writing. I noticed a lot with it being set it 2006 (which didn’t really have any significance in the first place) not coinciding with certain details. There were a lot of typos. And even down to switching between the character wearing sandals or flats.
👎🏾 Nothing was explained very well, except all the unimportant things. I wanted more from the whole plot line of the “bad guys”.

Overall, what started out on a bang thriller turned into a bad lifetime movie. So disappointed after I liked the last book I read by the author.

Definitely had my attention all the way through. The exposition was a little slow but it came together well once the action got started. Great twists and definitely unpredictable.
