This book actually put me into fight or flight mode. Despite being able to predict the end, I was still shocked.
Every woman’s nightmare
I could not put this book down. Great pacing kept me intrigued until the very last page. Best friends Laura and Olivia are heading to a weekend in the N. Idaho wilderness. They are, however, being followed. Things get worse when they are forced off the road and down a steep hill. Their story becomes one of survival. Simply a great read and one that will make me think twice about heading out into the woods at night. Also great to see familiar Idaho locations!

Strong start, okay ending, terrible middle. It’s hard to say what the overall pacing is because the pacing is uneven mostly due to the fact that the book is longer than it needs to be, even though it’s a fairly short book. This was an idea that just wasn’t fleshed out enough for a full novel.
The beginning is genuinely great, the time they actually spend in the car is tense and anxiety provoking and the pacing feels good. I didn’t really care for either of the main characters but they were fine to begin with and I think I still didn’t mind Laura by the end. Liv on the other hand began to get on my nerves. There is a ridiculous and unbelievable choice she makes about halfway through the book and it’s very clear she only makes that choice because it was needed to continue the story the author wanted, and from that point it went from being difficult to put down to difficult to keep reading.

3.5 stars. The beginning was so suspenseful and I literally couldn’t stop reading it. But, the ending was messy and started to get a little predictable. I feel like we’re kind of beaten over the head with “the answers” and Liv was asked to explain things to death to the reader. I prefer when thrillers leave some minor gaps for the reader to fill in themselves. There also was a lot of unnecessary repetition in the writing style — we get it, Laura’s lipstick was purple. I do think it had a lot of potential though, particularly with how anxiety inducing the build up felt. It did really grab my attention and it was a quick, entertaining read for the most part. I also really liked Liv (plus her friendship with Laura) and found her relatable as an anxiety-ridden true crime junkie.
