I picked up this book because I was in a little bit of a reading slump and it is only 300 or so pages long. I'd heard from booktok that it was a thrilling, heart-pounding, one-sitting read, and it was!...sort of.

I read it in 2 sittings because, you know, life gets in the way of my reading time (sigh), but I think I definitely could have read it all in one go. It was certainly engaging, if slightly repetitive in some aspects. The chase was thrilling, and I did feel my heart speed up at certain moments. The characters were likeable and relatable to me as a college-age girl, however the whole frat house thing was a bit of a mystery to me having not gone to uni in the US. That type of man though? Every women I know has had an encounter with a misogynist creep like the ones in this story. Horrifying.

However, this book was sold to me as a "gripping thriller with a killer twist." The "gripping thriller" part? Spot on. The "twist" however...doesn't exist. At least, I found it predictable enough that what was supposedly the "twist" was something I had worked out within the first chunk of the book. Not that it was a bad storyline, just not very surprising.

Overall I did really enjoy Run on Red. This genre is not something I typically pick up despite being a bit of a true crime junkie myself, however I would highly recommend it as a quick but engaging read to get you out of a slump, or just for those looking for something a bit easier to read (easier in terms of the language, not the themes. Please head the content warnings if you intent to read this book!)

I’m having a hard time choosing my rating. The story itself was really good. The suspense was amazing. I like a story that grabs you from the jump and doesn’t waste time getting into things. I just hate the timeline inconsistencies throughout the book. Some things suggest an iPhone was used yet this book is set in 2006? Make it make sense. The twist of who the two guys are is pretty predictable. I also feel like the ending was completely rushed. Hated the epilogue.

3.75 ⭐️ It was very VERY predictable but I did really enjoy reading it! Wouldnt pick it up again but for what it was, it was a great, fast-paced, easy read.
