Didn’t like what the plot did for Scylla, Telemachus, Penelope, or anyone except for Circe lol. Miller’s writing is SO beautiful though.

"It is a common saying that women are delicate creatures, flowers, eggs, anything that may be crushed in a moment's carelessness. If I had ever believed it, I no longer did."

I've always loved Greek mythology and The Song of Achilles (also by Madeline Miller) made me bawl like a child, so I was excited for a story from Circe's perspective. Although I think this is a worthy follow-up to SoA, in my opinion the relationship that was the core of Miller's first book was so beautifully developed that Circe by contrast, which did have a romance subplot, did not get me to feel the emotions that SoA did. That being said, I would still recommend this interpretation of the life and times of one of mythology's most mysterious figures, with a revolving door of other well-known characters from the Mythos.

I haven’t previously been a big fan of Madeline Miller’s work, but this book definitely changed my perspective on her writing! Although it was still a little slow for my liking, the plot and characters were really well executed.

This was such an interesting read!
Madeline Miller's prose is some of my favourite. It's so simple yet so detailed.
I didn't find myself desperately needing to finish this book, so my reading of it was spread over a week or so, but every time I read I was transported into this world and thoroughly enjoyed myself, and that's why it gets 5 stars (a very unusual rating for me)!
