I‘m torn. I listened to the (German) audiobook and I think it might have worked better being read. At the same time, the book stood on my shelf for years and I never started reading.
For me, there were too many time jumps, and too many different layers.
It was genre-bending, in a way, but I’m not convinced. The prose was beautiful though, and the end wrapped up most story arcs.

Only loses the half point for MAKING ME FEEL. Did not expect to be got by this story, especially given how far in advance I saw one of the big twists coming - just made my heart sink for a prolonged period. This must be great writing because by the end I really cared about the protagonist and what would have otherwise been saccharine sentimentality came through as sincere and true. We don’t NEED the extinction tale warning (do we really not know what’s coming??) but she handles it well.

I can’t even begin to describe how much I enjoyed this story and was also destroyed by it. Franny’s internal monologue is devastating and gripping, and I don’t know that I’ll ever personally recover.
