Twenty Boy Summer is about Anna’s trip to Zanzibar bay with her best friend, Frankie, who proposed they meet one boy every day in order to find their summer flings - a twenty boy summer.
But Anna cannot focus on their twenty boys and summer flings, as she’s been keeping a secret from her best friend that’s eating away at her. Frankie’s brother, Matt, and Anna were secretly dating and didn’t get around to telling Frankie before Matt died in a car crash.
I really enjoyed this book, the flashbacks interspersed with the present worked really well and it got to me that Matt had died, because the more I read about him the more I wanted to see of him and Anna as a couple.

What is the statute of limitations on feeling guilt for cheating on a ghost?
This is Anna's biggest question, biggest secret, and complete guilt of her life. She lost the secret boy she loved - her best friend that was a boy (and also her best friend's older brother). They shared secret moments, and then - he was gone. Died suddenly from a heart condition.
Now it's up to Anna to hold her best friend together - but Matt, her love, never got the chance to share their secret with the best friend. And now Anna has to hold that secret in.
But you can't move on if you're still in the past - and a year later, Anna is struggling to not drown in the guilt of slowly moving on.
Although Frankie is a bit obnoxious about the whole "albatross" issue, she is a much needed 'project' for Anna as much as Anna is for her. For a while, I wondered how Anna could be her friend but you can see it at times in the way they will just reach out for each other that they are each other's anchor.
and I found the story breathtaking.

I actually tried to read this about a year ago. I remember bringing it on the subway with me, starting to read it, immediately being bored, and just giving up on it. But I feel like I saw this a few places lately and I decided to try to pick it back up. And I'm happy I did because even though I didn't love it, I certainly enjoyed it.
I am a total sucker for boy next door relationships and so the whole Anna-Matt relationship was perfect for me. Well, besides the dying part. I loved how Anna tells the story of Matt not picking up pennies because he wanted to give someone else the good luck. I totally do that if I see one and I think I'm already having a good day (or if I don't want to look totally cheap by bending over to pick up a penny).
More than anything I thought this book felt really real. Anna's overprotective parents actually seemed like real parents, Anna and Matt worrying about how their relationship would affect Frankie seemed real, Frankie's depression/rebellion at Matt's death seemed real, and the summer romances that Frankie wants to pursue, including Anna's relationship with Sam, seemed real. There was nothing in this book that made me feel like I had to suspend disbelief.
Part of me was kind of bothered by the way that Anna treated Sam and how Sam just accepted it. Yes he was kind of summer fling, but they really seemed to have a connection and I feel like Anna really liked him and he really liked her. But they pretty much knew nothing about each other and were content just to hook up for the summer. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with going around slutting it up, I'm all for it if that's what everyone involved wants, but I feel like this relationship was somehow reflective of Matt's low self-esteem. Or I'm reading too much into it...
Anyway, I cried towards the end of the book, I won't spoil it and say at what, but the book obviously made me feel things, although not as much as I originally thought it would. But I enjoyed it and I definitely recommend it.

This was a quick and easy read, and definitely a believable story.
I mainly remember the acceptance the characters needed to develop, as well and the burden that comes with death, love, relationships, lies, and friendship.
There were many moments where I realized how selfish and crazy people can become under pressure.
I also recall thinking that many of the events that occurred are similar to what people go through on a daily bases these days.
Overall, this was a relatively good book, although not one of my favorites. I prefer books that stray from my everyday life because being able to compare a book to my life brings me back to reality... when the whole purpose of my reading is to take me away from reality.... not to relate to the characters.

this book was the perfect summer read. it was so cute and so fun. my favorite books are the ones that take place at the beach in the summer and this one delivered. I enjoyed it. the characters, settings and everything were super cute. Anna was a great lead who I enjoyed reading about and I loved her and Frankie's friendship. it reminds me of one I have with one of my friends. Sam was super cute and I loved his relationship with Anna. I wish we saw more!!!! the saddest part was when Frankie & Anna had the fight. that was so hard to read about. they needed each other and it was hard to see them fight. All in all, a cute summer read!!
why did i choose to read two heartbreaking books in a row

I've wanted to read this since it came out. I love YA Fiction. I can't help it. This book did not disappoint. As others have said, this story breaks your heart several times and puts it back together again. I loved all of the characters and their different coping mechanisms as they dealt with their loss and tried to move on with their lives. Maybe it doesn't have a perfect happy ending, but the realization that life does go on eventually was an important lesson to learn.
Quick read. The first chapter was written incredibly well. Loved it as I read, but some reservations keep me from awarding another star.
Loved it. It's a depressing and hopeful book. I personally think that Anna's relationship with Sam was just a side story. The book was based on Anna's emotional recovery which I loved. Recommend it to everyone.
