One of my favorite cyberpunk novels. Jeff Noon has an addictive writing style, more an artist than a mere author, creating some of the most interesting characters ever, and a fabulous, engrossing, imaginative story.
This was recommended to me by someone who said it was their favourite book of all time. I now find that kind of sad. It's an ok story with an interesting premise, but the setting failed to grab me and the writing annoyed me. It probably would have gotten an extra star or two if it had left out the half-animal people masturbating. Yeah.
OK, so. How do I feel about this book? It had a lot of roadblocks for me. I generally can't get into cyberpunk or sci-fi/fantasy with too much lingo, so 2 immediate strikes. Also, there were some other topics in the book that made me fairly uncomfortable. However, after all that being said, I ended up really enjoying this book. I considered giving it 4 stars, but again, some of the topics in this book were disturbing to me.
Urgh, I ended up loving this book. It disgusted and delighted me. Enthralling.
